ANOINTING OILS

ANOINTING OILS

God instructed Moses to make "holy anointing oil," made of ''the finest of spices" which were to include liquid Myrrh, sweet-smelling Cinnamon, fragrant Cane, Cassia, and Olive Oil (Exodus 30). This highly perfumed oil was to be used to consecrate the articles used in the Tabernacle and Temple worship in order to make them "holy" (kadosh in Hebrew) unto the Lord. It was also used to "set apart" or dedicate priests (Leviticus 16:32) and kings (1 Samuel15:1). Anointing oil was also used in prayer for the sick (James 5:14) as well as for many other dedicatory purposes. Understanding and experiencing the anointing oil enriches and deepens the faith of believers and draws them closer to God.
